Gas is so cheap these days (insert groan here) that we thought we'd road trip to Utah this summer. Okay, let's be honest here - I thought it'd be great to road trip to Utah this summer and I roped my evil sister into driving out with me and roped Dan into driving back with me. I don't know why I think dragging the monkeys on a cross country car trip is going to be fun but I'm pretty darn excited. In fact, we made the trip sound so exciting that my sister Anne decided to spend all day today flying to Chapel Hill so she can spend 5 days in the car with us driving her back home. Three sisters and three brothers - or as Joshua says, "Three Sisters vs. Three Brothers." We've evened the playing field and I'm feeling very empowered. Watch out monkeys - I am woman, hear me roar!
My evil sister and I have meticulously planned every aspect of the trip ... from the route to the in-car entertainment to the daily menu. We're going to all sorts of cool, quirky places and I can't wait for the adventures that lie ahead. The thing I'm most looking forward to? Our trip to Graceland. Did you know Elvis died and a few hours later I was born? I could be Elvis reincarnated ...
As of 7am tomorrow morning, we'll be off. 2339 miles. Watch out middle America - here we come!

We drove across the country when we moved from Virginia to Utah. It ended up being such an awesome trip. I could have done without the awful heat and humidity in Nauvoo but it was great to see it and all the other places we stopped. Good luck! I hope your trip is memorable (in the good way) too.

The thought of spending that much time in the car with three kids just about pushes me over the edge..but somehow you have actually made is sound appealing! Have a wonderful and safe trip!

You guys are insane!!! I'm a tinsy bit jealous since I've never really been to any of the states between Colorado and Virginia, but the thought of driving that far, with children, with the cost of gas doesn't make me feel like I'm missing out too much. You will for sure have some amazing stories to tell and I know your kids will remember it for years to come. At least Ben still remembers the cross-country trip to Alaska and he was about Joshua's age.

Thelma and Louise and Elvis! But who gets Brad Pitt? Have fun, can not wait to hear all about it. I've decided that when we move back to the states we are doing a 3 week road trip in Europe, then flying to Boston and doing a 2 week road trip to wherever we end up. Let me know which leg you want to join me on...

We road tripped with Mac when he was 6 months old from Cali to Canada to Montana and back, just over 4 thousand miles return. We slept in the tent in places, and had the time of our lives. Then of course we road tripped from NYC to North Carolina to see you... And we will be road tripping from Bologna to Ireland and back in August!!!! si si - we ARE crazy.
Safe travels.
